Mindfulness.
That's been a big buzzword recently.
It means being mindful to take care of yourself, both physically and mentally – especially mentally. Recently, and especially with the recent world events, people are taking a closer look at how we care for our mental health – and what stressors, both at home and work, are causing mental health to decline.
There are many ways to take care of yourself and promote mindfulness in your daily life – like apps for your phone!
We chose four perfect apps to help you get into the best space – and you can even use them in tandem!
1. Calm
You've probably heard of Calm through podcasts or online advertisements (they even have puzzles you can buy in-store!). Easily one of the best apps for mindfulness out there – loaded with content. While you do have to pay for a premium subscription to get access to everything (in all honesty, you do for most of these apps) – it's worth it. Masterclasses are taught by experts with subjects like Radical Self-Compassion, The Power of Rest, and more. You can also utilize deep breathing practices, guided meditations, soothing music, and soundscapes. Probably one of the coolest features, however, is the collection of Sleep Stories! Read by celebrities like Dame Mary Berry, Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey, and Kate Winslet. They're a fantastic tool to help you settle down and prepare your mind to fall asleep effortlessly – after all, who doesn't like a bedtime story?
2. Relax Melodies
Do you ever find yourself playing over the day's events in your head at night or worrying about all the tasks you need to finish the next day? There's an app for that! Made to help you relax before bedtime so you can get a good night's sleep, this app has stories, guided meditations, and soundscapes. The best part is that you can customize your soundscapes using sounds from their library! Whether you like to imagine you are on a rocket ship, reading in a coffee shop, or falling asleep to the sounds of a heavy thunderstorm, there's a sound bite for everyone.
3. Headspace
Next on our list is Headspace. Headspace has the same content as the others, like guided meditations, sleep stories, and mindfulness courses – but what really sets this app apart is the focus on your physical wellbeing through physical activity in addition to your mental wellness. They have guided workouts and yoga sessions like Mindfulness Cardio, Morning Warm-Up, and Reframing Anxiety. Definitely a two-for-one!
Last but certainly not least is Fabulous. Fabulous is a bit different than the others. While it also provides guided meditations and stories to help you snooze – the focus is more about tracking your mental health journey. You can join challenges that allow you to connect with others working towards the same goals, receive coaching, and encourage small daily goals and tasks like celebrating yourself, drinking water, and building positive-thinking habits.
